We held an AV Retriever Puppy and Novice Dog/Novice Handler working test yesterday (13.7.24) at West Steart Farm near Tiverton by kind invitation of Ed Brown.
For the second test running, we needed an additional judge due to the number of entries and Mary Palk kindly accepted our invitation to join Mandy Smith, Don Thorne and Chris Howe. The handlers were hugely grateful to them for their sympathetic approach, which went a long way to settle the nerves of first time competitors, and invaluable advice.
The results were:
Puppy (11 entries, 3 NFC)
1st Steve Lax’s Lab D Bellesbank Pintail
2nd Zena Churchward’s Ashport Lizzy Locket Lab B
3rd Veronica Harris’ Ashport Kenelm Lab D

The fact that all the puppies achieved an award reflects the high standard of the entry.

However, the downside of the day was saying goodbye to Don Thorne who retired from our Committee earlier in the year. He has been with us since the Club was formed fourteen years ago and helped at every single event we put on since then. To say he will be sorely missed is the epitome of an understatement but we wish him the very best.
