The Exmoor Gundog Club’s inaugural GWT for Novice and Open AV Retrievers was held on Sunday, 22nd April at Rexton Gorse, Lydeard St Lawrence, Somerset by kind permission of Martin White. The ground, which is mainly woodland with wide tracks and undulating fields surrounding it, provided the perfect setting.

To mark the occasion, five Panel Judges, Graham Cox, Rupert Hill, Sid Saturley, Graham West and Tim Woodgate-Jones, very kindly accepted our invitation and put the fantastic entry of 20 Open dogs and 24 Novices through their paces.

There was a very close result in the Open with only four points separating the award winners:

1st Alan Kennard’s Lab Dog Bransxholme Bailey of Highdunscott
(Winner of the Tunnelwood Trophy kindly donated by Steve and Sally Ashby)
2nd Robin Gray’s Lab Dog Grayspeed Tutbury
3rd Mel Brooks’ Lab Dog Kenmilleven Helston of Anningtonbay
4th Steve Ashby’s FCR Dog Houndswood Cedar from Tunnelwood

The Novice result was even closer close with three points between the first and third dogs.

1st Roger Davis’ Lab Dog Bisto Fella
(Winner of the Tallygold Trophy kindly donated by Mary Palk)
2nd Stephen Taylor’s Lab Dog Longcopse Hawk
3rd Janie Cleal’s Lab Bitch Clearwater Rosin
4th Killy Pennell’s Lab Bitch Kilpen Lioness handled by Beth Payne
